Newell Beach wedding photography … Boonooloo Beach House

Being a wedding photographer in Far North Queensland certainly has its days –  We loved being part of this amazingly relaxed beach wedding at Newell beach ( just north of Port Douglas).  Brendan and Bec hired an absolute beach front house (Boonooloo) set it up to host the ceremony and let everyone come to them….Perfect!  The simple and elegant reception setup was courtesy of Port Douglas Catering and Events.

How did you meet?  Brendan and I first locked eyes at the Melbourne Wine Room in St Kilda on the first warm summer weekend in October 2006. I thought he was the cutest guy in the room. We got talking and he said he was new to Melbourne and had returned to Australia after a few years in London. I offered to show him around Melbourne and the rest is history…..

Describe the proposal?  Brendan proposed at beachside Phillip island after the fairy penguin parade. I wasn’t expecting that so it was a wonderful surprise.

How did you decide on a place to celebrate your wedding day?  The reason we chose beachside Queensland is because Brendan is a fish – he has a real affinity with the water and spent the better part of his teenage years in it or on it. I grew up in Queensland and lived in tropical locations such as Thailand so I also feel most at home in warm, humid places.  Both our parents are in Queensland and Port Douglas has a special ‘peacefulness’ so it seemed like the perfect place. Our friends are spread across the country/globe so we knew wherever we had the wedding most people needed to travel and nobody complained about travelling to tropical paradise!

Tell us about finding your wedding dress: I organised the whole wedding ‘online’ and the dress was no exception. I wanted something really simple so when I saw the dress in the Saks 5th Avenue online catalogue for their end of summer sales I snapped it up and had it shipped from New York. It only took a week to arrive and it fit perfectly.

Describe your wedding flowers:  A simple bouquet of moth orchids. Very appropriate for Port Douglas I think.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while planning your big day?  Not letting other people’s ‘fuss’ get in the way of us wanting a really simple, fun day.

What was the most memorable moment about your wedding day?  There are too many special moments to pull out just one…it really was just the way we wanted it to be…. and more.

Did you write your own vows?  Yes, with the help of our lovely celebrant Elaine Charlton.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?  We are literally just about to leave for six weeks in Africa (Dubai, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania….and then Langkawi on the way home for a bit of 5 star)

What’s next for you guys?  Be happy that we escaped the last of winter and look forward to a relaxing Melbourne summer together.
